Beginning of Galungan Festival on Bali
I was lucky to come to Bali exactly for Galungan — the most important holiday for Balinese Hindu. This celebration lasts for 10 day and it is believed that Balinese gods are coming to Earth to celebrate with people the victory of virtue over evil.

A few days before the celebration big preparation begins. People start to make penjors.
За несколько дней до начала фестиваля местные жители начинают делать пенжоры.
Penjor is a beautifully decorated bamboo pole. Balinese people use natural materials to decorate them: banana leaves, corn, coconuts, oranges, bananas and traditional cakes. Arched top of the pole represents mount Agung — the highest mountain on Bali, the body is the river flowing from the mountain to the sea, and along the river harvested products are placed.
Пенжор — это красиво украшенный бамбуковый столб. Балийцы используют натуральные материалы для украшения: банановые листья, кукурузу, кокосы, апельсины, бананы и специальные пироги. Изогнутая вершина пенжора символизирует гору Агунг — самую высокую гору на Бали, основной ствол реку, которая несет свои воды с гор в море, а вдоль реки привязаны продукты, выращенные на острове.
Every family erects a penjor in front of their house along the main road. All penjors should be installed one day before Galungan. In Ubud town administration holds a contest for the most beautiful penjor and people spend a lot of time to work on their decorations.
Каждая семья ставит пенжор перед своим домом у главной дороги. Все столбы должны быть установлены не позднее дня предшествующему Галунгану. А в городе Убуд проводится конкурс на самый красивый пенжор и местные мастера стараются над украшениями изо всех сил.
On the first day of the celebration people wear their best clothes. In the morning they are going to their house temple to pray. Later people from villages gather and go to the nearby temple in procession.
В первый день праздника люди носят свою самую красивую одежду. С утра все идут в домашние храмы, а после этого собираются всей деревней и процессия движется в ближайший храм для молитвы.
After the prayer in the temple brahmin sprinkles water over donations to gods and people heads to bless them.
После молитвы в храме брамины окропляют подношения богам и людей водой чтобы благословить их.
